Four frameless windows and no fixed B-pillar gave the C207 the openness of a classic Mercedes-Benz coupé, while its twin-headlamp face carried the E-Class into a sharper, more technical decade.

Introduced in 2009 as the successor to the CLK, the C207 combined E-Class design and equipment with a shorter, more intimate two-door package. Its global range stretched from four-cylinder gasoline and diesel models to V6 and V8 flagships, while ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE, adaptive high beams and available lane and blind-spot assistance brought the safety emphasis of the contemporary W212 into the coupé.

A substantial 2013 redesign replaced the four-lamp graphic with single-piece headlamps, refreshed the cabin and added newer M274 and M276 engines. Production ended in December 2016 after 212,051 archive-documented cars, with the final vehicles sold in the United States as model year 2017.

From the CLK replacement to the single-headlamp facelift and final 2017 model year — the changes that shaped the C207.

  1. 2010
    • The E-Class Coupé reached the United States for model year 2010 as the E 350 and E 550, replacing the CLK with a pillarless four-seat body and a standard panoramic roof.
    • ATTENTION ASSIST and PRE-SAFE were standard; available technology included DISTRONIC PLUS, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist and Adaptive Highbeam Assist.
  2. 2012
    • The US E 350 adopted the direct-injected 302-hp M276 V6, while the E 550 changed to the 402-hp twin-turbo M278 V8.
    • E 350 4MATIC added all-wheel drive to the US coupé range.
  3. 2014
    • The major facelift replaced the four-lamp graphic with single-piece headlamps and reshaped the grille, hood, bumpers, rear lamps and exhaust finishers.
    • A revised steering wheel, new instruments and updated COMAND electronics refreshed the cabin, while a stereo camera expanded the available Intelligent Drive assistance systems.
    • New M274 four-cylinder gasoline engines and BlueTEC diesels broadened the global range; selected late diesel models subsequently adopted the nine-speed automatic.
  4. 2015
    • The twin-turbo E 400 replaced the E 350 in the US range, pairing 329 hp with rear-wheel drive or available 4MATIC.
  5. 2017
    • The final US model year closed the C207 run after calendar-year production ended in December 2016.
    • The larger C238 E-Class Coupé followed for model year 2018.
