Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon (S213) (S213)

The S213 brought the sixth factory E-Class Wagon generation into series production at Sindelfingen on September 8, 2016. Beneath a lower, more aerodynamic roofline, Mercedes-Benz retained the format’s defining virtues: a broad, level load floor, standard self-levelling rear suspension and an available rear-facing third row. The 670-litre luggage compartment expanded to 1,820 litres with the rear seats folded, while the 40:20:40 backrest and one-touch folding controls made that space easier to use than before.

Its larger advance was electronic. The S213 shared the W213 sedan’s high-resolution twin-screen cockpit, touch-sensitive steering-wheel controls, Car-to-X communication and a new generation of driver assistance. DRIVE PILOT could maintain distance, steer through gentle bends and adapt to changing limits, while the optional MULTIBEAM LED lamps used individually controlled light elements. Four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines opened the global range, followed by six-cylinder, plug-in hybrid and AMG versions; every catalogue variant listed here used a nine-speed automatic.

A comprehensive 2020 update gave the Wagon new lighting, revised bumpers, the MBUX interface and capacitive steering-wheel controls, while expanding electrified powertrains. In the United States, the conventional E 400 and E 450 4MATIC Wagons covered model years 2017 through 2020; the raised X213 All-Terrain became the regular offering for 2021–2023 and is outside this S213 catalogue. Apart from a MY2022 V8 supply pause, the S213 remained in US showrooms as the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon through model year 2023, closing a seven-year run whose breadth stretched from efficient four-cylinder diesels to a 603-hp twin-turbo V8.
