When Benz and Daimler merged in 1926, the new Mercedes-Benz needed a car ordinary buyers could afford — and the Stuttgart 200 was the answer, a six-cylinder sedan that put the three-pointed star on middle-class driveways across Germany.
Under the bonnet sat the 8/38 PS inline-six, a straightforward but well-engineered powerplant suited to open touring bodies, closed saloons and the practical L3/4 light commercial van. The line carried the Stuttgart name from 1929 onward, anchoring Mercedes-Benz's early volume strategy while larger chassis handled executive and sporting duties.
Production ran from 1926 to 1933, and 15,662 examples left the factory — making the Stuttgart 200 the first true volume Mercedes-Benz after the merger and the foundation on which the Stuttgart 260 and later mid-range models would build.
