The W902 carried the second weight class of the first-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter — the T1N platform's mid-light commercial range that bridged urban delivery and heavier cargo duty.
Model designations from 208 CDI through 216 CDI reflected the arrival of common-rail diesel technology in the early 2000s, supplementing the earlier OM601 and OM602 naturally aspirated units. The W902 shared the T1N's forward-control body and car-derived front suspension with the W901, W903, and W904 variants.
Produced from 1998 to 2005, the W902 was part of the Sprinter generation that established Mercedes-Benz dominance in the European large-van market — a commercial Baureihe built with passenger-car engineering standards.
