The W108 carried Mercedes-Benz's upper mid-range and full-size luxury saloons through the late 1960s — a clean, Paul Bracq-designed line that bridged the fintail era and the coming S-Class generation.
The range ran from carbureted six-cylinder 250 and 280 models to fuel-injected SE and long-wheelbase SEL variants, and finally to the 280 SE 4.5 and SEL 4.5 with the new M117 V8. Crumple zones, improved suspension, and a more modern cabin marked a clear step forward from the Heckflosse cars it replaced.
Between 1965 and 1972, 359,819 were built.
