The GLA started as a raised hatchback — the second-generation H247 GLA grew into a proper compact SUV, sharing its platform with the A-Class and delivering the high-riding body style that buyers now expect from even Mercedes-Benz's smallest crossover.
Mercedes-Benz launched the H247 GLA in 2020 on the MFA2 platform, with a more conventional SUV profile than the original GLA's quasi-coupé stance. Turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and the MBUX infotainment system with augmented-reality navigation placed the GLA at the entry point of Mercedes-Benz's SUV range; AMG versions including the GLA 35 and GLA 45 brought genuine hot-hatch performance to the segment.
The H247 GLA represents the second generation of Mercedes-Benz's compact crossover — a vehicle that trades the original's quirky proportions for broader appeal while maintaining the premium technology and safety that define the brand's entry-level SUV.
