The second-generation Großer Mercedes — the W150 Typ 770 carried heads of state and captains of industry through the final pre-war years and into conflict, as imposing as any car Mercedes-Benz has ever built.
Mercedes-Benz redesigned its flagship for 1938: a massive eight-cylinder engine — optionally supercharged — mounted in a long-wheelbase chassis built for formal Sindelfingen coachwork. Pullman saloons, cabriolets, and landaulets served diplomatic fleets and private collectors alike; armor and special fittings were available for those whose status demanded more than chrome.
Only 88 were completed on the W150 chassis between 1938 and 1943. Each Großer Mercedes was effectively a commission piece; the low count reflects hand-built exclusivity rather than any lack of demand among the clientele who could afford one.
