The W414 Vaneo was Mercedes-Benz's compact MPV for the early 2000s — a front-wheel-drive people carrier built to offer practical family transport with a three-pointed star on the grille.
Based on the first-generation A-Class platform, the Vaneo used sliding rear side doors, a high roof, and flexible seating in a short footprint suited to European cities. Petrol and CDI diesel four-cylinder engines provided the power, and the emphasis throughout was on entry-level Mercedes-Benz ownership for families who needed space rather than status.
Produced from 2002 to 2005, the W414 was a pragmatic product — never a design icon, but a useful one. It filled a gap in the range that the B-Class would subsequently address with greater success.
