The W901 was the founding Baureihe of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter — the lightest weight-class variant of the first-generation T1N van that replaced the TN transporter in 1995 and established the Sprinter name.
Covering 208, 308, and 408 model designations with naturally aspirated diesel and petrol engines, the W901 brought car-derived OM601 and OM602 diesel units and M111 petrol fours to the lightest commercial payload class. Panel van, crew bus, and chassis-cab configurations shared the same forward-control architecture.
The W901 served from 1995 to 1997 before the range was updated across the T1N family. It was the entry point to a van program that would become one of Mercedes-Benz's most commercially important products worldwide.
