The W447 V-Class is the current generation of Mercedes-Benz's large MPV and commercial van platform — the architecture that serves both luxury V-Class passenger models and workhorse Vito panel vans from the same fundamental design.

Replacing the W639 in 2014, the W447 brought improved refinement, more car-like driving dynamics, and a range of OM651 and OM622 diesel engines plus petrol options for markets that demand them. The V-Class targets executive shuttle and family use; the Vito and Metris variants serve commercial duty with the same chassis engineering underneath.

The W447 remains in production across passenger and commercial variants. It is the platform that keeps Mercedes-Benz competitive in the large van and luxury MPV segments simultaneously — one Baureihe, two very different customers.

V-Class launch, US Metris introduction and the OM654/9G-TRONIC facelift — the major W447 milestones.

  1. 2014
    • The V-Class replaced the Viano in Europe with car-like interior design, standard Crosswind Assist and ATTENTION ASSIST, and optional COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST and LED Intelligent Light System.
    • V 200 CDI, V 220 CDI and V 250 BlueTEC used the OM651 four-cylinder diesel; the V 250 paired it with 7G-TRONIC PLUS.
  2. 2016
    • The W447 entered the US as the model-year 2016 Metris passenger and cargo vans, powered by a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine and seven-speed automatic.
  3. 2019
    • The V-Class facelift brought a full-width lower grille, revised bumpers and new trim and wheel designs.
    • New OM654 diesels included the V 300 d; 9G-TRONIC became available, and Active Brake Assist and Highbeam Assist Plus updated the safety offering.
  4. 2020
    • The battery-electric EQV joined with a 100-kWh gross-capacity battery and 150-kW front motor.
  5. 2023
    • Mercedes-Benz ended US Metris sales after the 2023 model year while European W447 production continued.
