Mercedes-Benz GLB Hybrid (X248) (X248)

The X248 gives the second-generation GLB a combustion engine without giving up the electric behaviour around which MMA was designed.

Its body is shared with the electric X244: 4,732 mm long, 1,861 mm wide and riding on a 2,889 mm wheelbase, with five seats as standard and an optional third row. The flat-roofed shape keeps the GLB’s defining practicality, including 540 litres behind the second row, while MB.OS, the optional MBUX Superscreen and over-the-air vehicle updates replace the electronics architecture of the X247. A light-flooded star grille distinguishes the hybrid from the electric car’s sealed, illuminated panel.

Every X248 combines the 1.5-litre M 252 turbo four with a 22 kW motor integrated into a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 1.3 kWh, 48-volt lithium-ion battery lets the GLB move electrically at light urban loads, coast with the engine disconnected at around 100 km/h and recuperate up to 25 kW in all eight gears. Five versions span 156 to 211 PS of system output, with front-wheel drive on the GLB 180, 200 and 220 and 4MATIC alternatives for the latter two.

The hybrid shares the electric GLB’s MB.OS cabin, optional three-display MBUX Superscreen and sliding second row.

Year by year.

The December 2025 reveal and March 2026 European order release of the hybrid second-generation GLB.

  1. 2025
    • 8 December: Mercedes-Benz presented the second-generation GLB and confirmed that high-tech hybrid versions would follow the electric launch cars on the same MMA body.
    • The new body grew to 4,732 mm with a 2,889 mm wheelbase, retained optional seating for seven and introduced MB.OS and the optional MBUX Superscreen.
  2. 2026
    • 19 March: European sales release for GLB 180, GLB 200, GLB 200 4MATIC, GLB 220 and GLB 220 4MATIC, with German pricing beginning at €50,396.50.
    • All versions paired the new 1,499 cc M 252 with an eight-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission containing a 22 kW, 200 N·m motor and a 1.3 kWh 48-volt battery.
    • System outputs were 115 kW/156 PS for GLB 180, 135 kW/184 PS for GLB 200 and 155 kW/211 PS for GLB 220; 4MATIC was offered on the latter two power levels.
    • The integrated motor enabled electric manoeuvring and low-load city driving, engine-off coasting around 100 km/h and recuperation of up to 25 kW in every gear.

An upright tail preserves room for an optional third row and a 540-litre boot in five-seat form.

One engine, three tunes.

The 1.5-litre M 252 produces 100, 120 or 140 kW before the integrated 22 kW motor contributes to system output.
