The W121 Ponton 190 was the more powerful four-cylinder step up from the 180 — a compact executive saloon that brought stronger performance and more prestige to the Ponton range without the cost of a W180 luxury car.

Petrol 190 and 190 b saloons used the 1.9-liter M121 four-cylinder in the same Ponton body architecture as the W120, while the 190 D and 190 Db extended the formula to diesel buyers. This Baureihe covers the four-door Ponton 190 program only — the 190 SL roadster belongs to W121 variant chassis W121.040/042, not the saloon line.

Production ran from 1956 to 1961 across the W121 petrol and diesel saloon range, ending when the W110 190 c and 190 Dc arrived.

    • The 190 saloon joined the range with a 75 hp 1.9-liter M121 engine.
    • Ribbed brake drums and wider brake shoes distinguished the 190 chassis from the 180.
    • Vent windows, full side-window chrome and a wider grille provided exterior dating cues.

    • The saloon received a revised interior and recessed boot-lid handle.
    • Rear number-plate lamps moved into the bumper guards.
  3. 1958
    • The 190 D introduced the 50 hp 1.9-liter OM621 diesel engine.
