The second-generation CLA Coupé sharpened every line of the original — lower, wider, and more assertive, the C118 proved that Mercedes-Benz's compact four-door coupé had graduated from niche experiment to permanent fixture.

Built on the MFA2 platform from 2019, the C118 CLA Coupé gained improved proportions, the MBUX infotainment system, and a range of turbocharged engines including AMG variants with up to 421 PS. The frameless-door design and fastback profile remained, but improved aerodynamics and a more refined chassis made the car a credible long-distance companion rather than purely a style statement.

The C118 carried the CLA Coupé line as Mercedes-Benz's entry into the four-door-coupé segment — a design-led compact that brought CLS influence downmarket without sacrificing the technology and safety expected of the brand.

AMG and plug-in additions, the 2023 facelift and the hand-over to the MMA-generation CLA.

  1. 2019
    • Second-generation CLA premiered at CES with wider tracks, frameless doors, MBUX and available augmented-reality navigation and ENERGIZING COACH.
    • AMG CLA 35 and CLA 45/45 S followed; the 45 S paired the 310 kW (421 PS) M139 with an eight-speed DCT, AMG TORQUE CONTROL and Drift Mode.
  2. 2020
    • CLA 250 e plug-in hybrid joined with a 15.6 kWh battery, 75 kW motor and DC fast-charging capability.
  3. 2023
    • Facelift introduced new front and rear styling, LED High Performance headlamps and richer standard equipment.
    • Latest-generation MBUX added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Dolby Atmos support; the center-console touchpad was deleted.
    • Petrol models became 48-volt mild hybrids; the AMG CLA 35 gained the starter-generator and an eight-speed DCT, while the 45 S powertrain remained unchanged.
    • CLA 250 e received an 80 kW motor, greater electric range and 11 kW AC charging.
  4. 2025
    • The MMA-generation C174/C178 CLA family began its global rollout, but did not immediately replace the C118 in every market.
  5. 2026
    • The C118 remained in the US range for model year 2026 as CLA 250, CLA 250 4MATIC, AMG CLA 35 and AMG CLA 45 S, sold alongside the new electric CLA Sedan.
