The W124 was already the benchmark executive car of its era — the C124 coupé made it beautiful, wrapping the same engineering excellence in a pillarless two-door body that remains one of the most elegant shapes to leave Sindelfingen.
Mercedes-Benz introduced the C124 E Coupé in 1987 with frameless side windows, a wide track, and the full W124 powertrain catalogue from frugal diesel fours through the 300 CE-24 and, later, the 320 CE and 300 CE-24 AMG. Multi-link rear suspension, optional ASR traction control, and the same obsessive attention to panel gaps and corrosion protection made the coupé as durable as the sedan — with considerably more presence.
Production ran from 1987 to 1996, spanning the entire W124 lifecycle and bridging the C123 CE and the CLK coupés that followed. The C124 remains the definitive pillarless Mercedes of the late twentieth century.
