Mercedes-Benz Luxury Sedan (W128)

The W128 was the final flowering of the Ponton-era luxury line — a short-run 220 SE program that offered fuel-injected six-cylinder refinement in sedan, coupé, and cabriolet bodies before the Heckflosse arrived.

The 220 SE used Mercedes-Benz's mechanical fuel injection in the 2.2-liter six, delivering smooth power in formal saloon, elegant coupé, and open cabriolet coachwork. Styling bridged late-Ponton conservatism and the cleaner lines that would define the early 1960s.

Built from 1958 to 1960, only 3,916 W128s were produced across all body styles. It was a brief, scarce program — the last Ponton luxury car before Mercedes-Benz moved decisively into the fintail age.
