Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon (S124) (S124)

The W124 sedan was the best car in its class — the S124 T-Model proved it could also be the best estate, combining the same aerodynamic efficiency and multi-link rear suspension with a load bay that swallowed everything a family or a workshop could demand.

Mercedes-Benz launched the S124 T-Model in 1985 with the W124 range, offering the same engine catalogue from diesel fours through the 300 TE-24 and, in AMG guise, the rare 500 E wagon. Self-levelling rear suspension maintained ride height under load; the flat floor and generous tailgate opening made the T-Model genuinely practical rather than merely a sedan with an extended roof. Build quality matched the sedan's obsessive standards — double-sided galvanized steel, precise panel gaps, and a reputation for million-kilometer longevity.

Built from 1985 to 1996, the S124 T-Model was the definitive W124 estate and remains a benchmark for how a premium load-carrier should be engineered — functional, durable, and unmistakably Mercedes-Benz.
