Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Speedster (Z199) · SLR Stirling Moss
Roofless, screenless send-off for the SLR.

Named for Sir Stirling Moss, who won the 1955 Mille Miglia in the 300 SLR racing car wearing number 722, the Z199 answered the question of how to end the SLR program. Everything above the carbon monocoque was new: twin head fairings behind the seats, a pair of low deflectors where the windscreen used to be, swing-wing doors and exhausts exiting ahead of them. The supercharged 5.4-liter M155 V8 ran the 722 specification at 478 kW, and deleting the roof, the glass and much else besides left the car roughly 200 kg lighter than a standard SLR.
Assembled at Woking between June and December 2009, all 75 examples were offered only to existing SLR owners, at 750,000 euros apiece. The Stirling Moss closed the Mercedes-McLaren partnership on its most uncompromising note — a road car asked to behave like the 1955 racer it was named after.

A single 2009 designation — the engine, chassis code and production figure for the Z199.
