The W177 introduced MBUX, and with it the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant — the first Mercedes-Benz you could hold a conversation with.
Launched in 2018 on the MFA2 platform, it pairs M282 and M260 petrol fours and OM608 and OM654q diesels with 7G-DCT and 8G-DCT, and in its slipperiest specification records a drag coefficient of 0.22. The AMG A 45 S makes 421 PS from the M139.
A saloon followed on the V177 code, and the hatchback continues as the smallest Mercedes-Benz passenger car.

- 2018
- Fourth-generation A-Class launched with the first production version of MBUX, including the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant, twin widescreen displays and augmented-reality navigation.
- AMG A 35 4MATIC added a 225 kW (306 PS) M260 four-cylinder, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and variable all-wheel drive.
- 2019
- AMG A 45 and A 45 S arrived with the hand-built M139, making 285/310 kW (387/421 PS), an eight-speed DCT and AMG TORQUE CONTROL with Drift Mode.
- A 250 e plug-in hybrid joined the hatchback range with a 15.6 kWh battery and DC charging.
- 2022
- Facelift introduced revised headlamps, grille, bumpers and rear diffuser, a new steering wheel and the latest MBUX with wireless smartphone integration; the center-console touchpad was deleted.
- Petrol models became 48-volt mild hybrids with a 10 kW belt starter-generator; the A 35 gained the same system and switched from a seven- to an eight-speed DCT.
- A 250 e received an 80 kW traction motor, longer electric range and faster 11 kW AC/22 kW DC charging.
- 2026
- AMG A 45 S Final Edition opened for ordering in July with two exclusive paints, dark-chrome trim, black 19-inch forged wheels and optional yellow-and-black “45 S” graphics.
