The Nürburg 460 and later 500 variants brought smooth, refined straight-eight power to a long-running luxury platform suited to formal saloons, touring cars and distinguished open bodies. Its engineering set the pattern for Mercedes-Benz's pre-war eight-cylinder road cars, bridging the large six-cylinder executive range and the ultra-exclusive Grosser Mercedes above it.
Built from 1928 to 1939, the Nürburg proved remarkably enduring for its era — 3,824 examples left the factory over eleven years. That long production run established the straight-eight as a core part of Mercedes-Benz's luxury identity well into the 1930s.
