An AMG twelve that emigrated to Italy and never came home.
Pagani had been buying Mercedes V12s since the first Zonda, and for the Huayra it asked for one thing above all: response. AMG took its 6.0-liter M275 biturbo and rebuilt it around throttle behavior rather than peak numbers — smaller twin-scroll turbochargers to cut lag, a reworked intercooler arrangement, dry-sump lubrication with an external tank and metered oil flow to keep churning losses down, and a bespoke Bosch control unit. The result held 1,000 N·m from 2,250 to 4,500 rpm and was homologated to EU5 and LEV2, which is unusual diligence for an engine built in the low hundreds.
Much of the car’s cooling was built onto the engine itself: header tanks doubling as expansion vessels, finned for extra heat rejection, and a two-stage fuel system whose second pump only woke when needed. Later Huayras took it further — 764 PS in the BC, 838 in the Imola — and it carried over into the Utopia of 2023, by which point it had been in production longer than most Mercedes-Benz engines of its generation. It has never been fitted to a car wearing a three-pointed star.
