AMG's hand-built 2.0-liter turbo four — the most powerful series-production four-cylinder of its era, and the heart of every 45.
Developed from the M133 but extensively reworked, the M139 keeps the 83 × 92 mm bore and stroke for 1,991 cc, adds a twin-scroll turbo, spray-guided direct injection and a closed-deck block, and is assembled one-engine-one-builder at Affalterbach. Two calibrations launched with the CLA 45: roughly 285 kW and a hotter S tune near 310 kW.
Beyond the CLA 45 it powers A 45 and GLA 45 models, and a transverse version feeds the R232 SL 43. Cylinder spacing and geometry also underpin AMG's modular 4.0-liter V8 family.
