Mercedes-Benz Large Sedan · Typ 230
The volume 230 of the late 1930s.

Mercedes-Benz positioned the W143 as the mainstream six-cylinder offering: 2.3-liter engine, conventional rear-drive layout, and a range of Sindelfingen bodies from practical saloons to touring cabriolets. It was the step up from the four-cylinder 170 V for buyers who wanted refinement and pace without the cost or complexity of the supercharged eight-cylinder range.
Production spanned 1937 to 1941, and the archive tables record 20,290 examples on the W143 chassis. The Typ 230 was among the highest-volume Mercedes-Benz passenger programs of its decade — the defining six-cylinder car of the late pre-war years.

2 distinct series across 1937–1941 — each identified by its chassis and engine numbers from period factory data.
