The W415 Citan is Mercedes-Benz's compact commercial van — a badge-engineered partnership product that brings the three-pointed star to the small-van segment alongside the larger Vito and Sprinter ranges.
Offered in panel van and combi configurations with a range of CDI diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines, the Citan serves tradespeople and small businesses who need Mercedes-Benz dealer support in a footprint smaller than the W639 Vito. BlueEFFICIENCY calibrations and multiple wheelbase options cover the European light-commercial market.
Launched in 2012, the W415 Citan remained in production through 2021 as Mercedes-Benz's entry point in the commercial vehicle range — practical, unglamorous, and essential to the firm's van portfolio.

Year by year.
Launch, Euro 6 upgrade and late powertrain revision — the practical changes across the first Citan generation.
- 2012
- The Citan launched as a Renault Kangoo-derived Mercedes-Benz city van in compact, long and extra-long bodies, with panel-van, crewbus and passenger configurations.
- Standard safety equipment included ADAPTIVE ESP, ABS, acceleration skid control and brake assist.
- 2015
- Euro 6 passenger versions arrived with engine revisions and a NOx storage catalyst rather than SCR/AdBlue; diesel torque increased by 20 N·m without changing rated power.
- Factory navigation, reversing camera, glass roof and a double front-passenger seat joined the options; the petrol Citan 112 gained an optional six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
- 2019
- Revised Citan 108 CDI, 109 CDI and 111 CDI diesels adopted SCR emissions control with AdBlue, met Euro 6d-TEMP and received higher outputs.
- 2021
- First-generation W415 production ended before the W420 Citan replacement.
