Mercedes-Benz split the C-Class in two — Classic and Elegance kept the star upright on the bonnet, Avantgarde moved it into the grille — the first time the compact executive offered a choice of faces.
Built from March 2007, it introduced AGILITY CONTROL suspension and offered M271 supercharged and turbocharged fours, M272 and M276 V6s and the 6.2-liter M156 in the C 63 AMG, with OM646, OM651 and OM642 diesels. A C204 coupé joined in 2011, taking over from the CLC.
The 2011 facelift revised some two thousand parts; saloon and estate production ran to March 2014.

- 2008
- The W204 reached the United States as the C 300 and C 350 with distinct Luxury and Sport grille treatments.
- The C 300 was available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive in the United States from launch.
- The C 63 AMG introduced a 451 hp M156 V8, seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission and AMG-specific front bodywork, suspension and brakes.
- 2012
- The facelift introduced an aluminium bonnet, revised bumpers and lamps, LED running lamps and a completely redesigned dashboard.
- The US range adopted the turbocharged four-cylinder C 250 and direct-injected M276 V6 in the C 350.
- ATTENTION ASSIST became standard and optional assistance equipment expanded to include Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and DISTRONIC PLUS.
- 2014
- The C 63 AMG Edition 507 used SLS AMG-derived engine components to raise output to 507 hp and added a vented aluminium bonnet and compound brakes.
- W204 sedan production ended in June as the successor W205 entered the market; the C204 coupé continued separately into 2015.
