Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan (W213) (W213)

The W213 turned the E-Class Sedan into a network of cameras, radar sensors and touch-sensitive controls, wrapping its technical ambition in the calm, flowing surfaces of a smaller S-Class.

Series production began at Sindelfingen in February 2016. DRIVE PILOT combined adaptive distance and steering assistance with Active Lane Change Assist, while Car-to-X communication, Remote Parking Pilot and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side pushed the E-Class beyond conventional cruise control without pretending it was autonomous.

The range grew from four-cylinder gasoline and OM654 diesel models to plug-in hybrids, the electrified AMG E 53 inline-six and the M177-powered AMG E 63. A 2020 redesign brought MBUX, a capacitive steering wheel and new lighting; the final US model year was 2023 before the W214 succeeded it.
