In 1927 Mercedes-Benz aimed squarely at the executive saloon market with the Typ 300, a 12/55 PS car sized and priced for buyers who wanted more presence than a Stuttgart without stepping up to the company's largest chassis.
The Typ 300 occupied a narrow niche in the late-1920s catalogue, offering a refined six-cylinder package for formal closed bodies and distinguished touring coachwork. Its brief run reflected the rapid model churn of the period, as Mercedes-Benz refined its lineup around clearer size and price bands.
Only 3,319 were built in a single model year, and the line was quickly superseded — but the Typ 300 established the template for a dedicated executive tier that the enlarged Typ 300/320 would briefly continue.
