Mercedes-Benz 722.8 AUTOTRONIC Continuously Variable Transmission transmission

Mercedes-Benz’s only passenger-car CVT — built for the sandwich-floor A- and B-Class.

The 722.8 AUTOTRONIC (WFC280) is an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission developed for the transverse FWD W169 A-Class and T245 B-Class. A push-belt variator and electronic control gave stepless ratios and selectable virtual shift points, marketed as the smooth alternative to the five- and six-speed manuals. Torque capacity is about 280–300 N·m.

Versions 722.800–722.802 cover the A- and B-Class petrol and diesel range from 2005 to about 2012. Mercedes-Benz has not offered another passenger-car CVT since; later compact models moved to the 7G-DCT.
