Mercedes-Benz 722.4 4G-TRONIC Automatic Transmission transmission

The small-case 4G-TRONIC — four hydraulic speeds for four-cylinder and light six-cylinder Mercedes.

Type 722.4 (W4A020) is the lower-torque sibling of the 722.3: the same 4G-TRONIC architecture in a lighter case rated around 196 N·m. It was the automatic of choice for the W201 190, many W123 petrol fours and diesels, early W202 C-Class models and lighter W124 engines.

Together with the 722.3 it covered almost every Mercedes-Benz passenger car from the early 1980s until the electronic 722.6 5G-TRONIC took over from 1996.
