The GLC Coupé took the fastback-SUV idea down a size from the GLE Coupé, and found far more buyers than anyone had forecast.

Launched in 2016 on the X253’s platform, the C253 shared its M274 and M264 fours, M276 V6 and M177 V8, OM651 and OM654 diesels and 9G-TRONIC transmission, with 4MATIC standard on every version sold in Europe.

The AMG GLC 63 S Coupé produced 510 PS; production ran to 2023.

US launch, V8 AMG arrival and the 2020 MBUX facelift — the material changes across the first GLC Coupé.

  1. 2017
    • The GLC Coupé reached the US as GLC 300 4MATIC and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, all with nine-speed automatics, permanent all-wheel drive and standard sport suspension.
    • DYNAMIC SELECT was standard; AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension and a suite of DISTRONIC, lane and blind-spot assistance systems were optional.
  2. 2018
    • Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 S Coupés joined with 469- and 503-hp 4.0-liter biturbo V8s, nine-speed multi-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled rear differential.
  3. 2020
    • The facelift introduced reshaped bumpers, standard LED headlamps, revised LED tail lamps and a vertical-bar grille on AMG versions.
    • MBUX replaced COMAND with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, touchpad, available digital instruments and conversational voice control.
    • GLC 300 output rose to 255 hp and AMG GLC 43 to 385 hp; the updated assistance suite added route-based speed adaptation and exit warning.
  4. 2023
    • The final C253 model year preceded the C254 GLC Coupé.
