Maybach’s twin-turbo V12 — an M275 cousin tuned for silent, effortless torque in the 57 and 62.
Based on the same SOHC three-valve 60° aluminum architecture as Mercedes’ M275, the M285 launched in 2002/03 for the Maybach 57 and 62. The 5.5-liter (82 × 87 mm) made about 405 kW and 900 N·m; the later 6.0-liter S versions pushed toward 450 kW and a full 1,000 N·m.
It defined Maybach’s first revival until production ended around 2012. Mercedes’ own AMG 65 models kept the closely related M275, while the later M279 continued the biturbo V12 line under the three-pointed star.
